Sinossi

Dopo la morte della moglie, dalla quale da qualche anno viveva separato, Tom Winters, va a riprendersi i suoi tre bambini. Ma i piccoli, che vivevano con i nonni, lo considerano quasi un estraneo, e si trovano a disagio nella grande città. Una sera il più grande scappa ed incontra Cinzia, una ragazza italiana, figlia di un celebre direttore d'orchestra in tournè negli Stati Uniti, a sua volta scappata dal padre. Il bambino s'affeziona a lei, ed insieme ai fratellini convince Tom a prenderla come loro governante. Cinzia si trasferisce quindi sul barcone sul fiume dove vive adesso la famigliola: non è pratica di faccende domestiche, ma riesce a conquistarsi l'affetto di tutti. A poco, a poco Tom e Cinzia si innamorano suscitando la ribellione da parte dei bambini, che non vogliono che Cinzia prenda il posto della mamma...
