Sinossi

William Tatcher è un palafreniere molto abile negli scontri cavallereschi. Riesce a partecipare a un torneo e da lì si avvia la sua ascesa che lo porta ad essere il più grande in assoluto. Due motivi lo animano: uscire dalla condizione di povero londinese in cui ha sempre vissuto e conquistare la bella e un po' sprezzante Jocelyn che è già promessa al conte Adhemar. Per fare breccia si cambia pure il nome diventando Ulrich von Lichtenstein di Gelderland.
